Can A Stretch Mark Surgery Eliminate Stretch Marks? by:Juana Cruz

"Should I go for a stretch mark surgery?'

That is probably one of the questions you have asked yourself as you see ugly scars all over your thighs, and probably even on your breasts and butt. But is a surgery worth it? Let's try to find out.

Stretch marks occur because of bodily changes that happen to a person. It could be due to weight gain, sudden growth, genetics and pregnancy. Men and women can have stretch marks although it is more common among women, because girls experience puberty earlier in their lives, and hence undergo sudden growth, and later on, some of them get pregnant. When the skin fibers are stretched to their limit to accommodate the sudden changes in a person's body, stretch marks - or scars that you see on the skin - occur.

Stretch marks happen mostly on the butt, thighs and lower abdomen, although sometimes they also appear on the chest and even on the face. If you have stretch marks, you probably heard that they will not be eliminated unless you get rid of them through surgical means. Lotions and other types of over-the-counter solutions only reduce the visibility of the problem, to make them less seen or noticeable.

One of the ways to surgically remove stretch marks is by getting a laser surgery. In this type of operation, a narrow beam of light is penetrated through the skin to stimulate collagen production, which therefore causes the affected area blend with the rest of the skin. It takes five to six sessions for the entire area to be treated. In three to six months after the first laser operation has been conducted, there is guaranteed improvement on the appearance of the scars. After a few months, the skin will gradually improve, thanks to collagen stimulation and production.

Another kind of stretch mark repair is called chemical peel. What this basically does is that, it removes a few layers of the affected area to produce newer skin layers. Sessions can be done for a few times, to guarantee effectiveness. Deeper peels are available - Glycolic acid and Jessner's peels result to reduced skin discolorations and dryness, other than the removed layers of affected skin with stretch marks. Trichloracetic acid (TCA) is used for medium peels. One will notice no significant difference after the initial peel other than the pain, however, it will gradually improve after a few months.

You may be wondering if surgeries for stretch marks can do wonders for the skin. I am not a professional to give you a medical or expert advice. However, if you want to more than just cover up stretch marks by making them less noticeable without going under knife, then why bother with these chemical peels and pricey surgeries?

Topical solutions that contain ingredients including vitamins E and K are used to guarantee that your scars will be reduced and your skin will be healthier again. Besides, they are cheaper and can be applied at home. So, if you want almost the same results, go for a more natural stretch mark repair. However, if you want to get to the root of the problem, you might remove them with stretch mark surgery.
