Can Aion Beat World Of Warcraft?

For more than a decade Warcraft has reigned supreme in the fantasy role playing gaming market

. Everyone was taken by surprise by the meteoric success of the online version of Warcraft, World of Warcraft, and it was thought that its success would never again be repeated. That may be about to change in a very big way!

In the world of online gaming a relatively new game is taking the MMORPG (massively multi-player online role playing game) genre to new heights. The Korean developed game Aion is set to take the online role playing to a whole new level. So is Aion capable of toppling World of Warcraft?

There is no question that Aion looks great. The fantasy world of the game, Atreia, just looks fantastic! Your character wields amazing powers and uses their wings to explore the celestial virtual world around you - yes you can fly!

The game was developed in Korea by the developer NCsoft.

In the game Aion is not a place as you may presume but is actually a god who created the world. Aion also created two races to inhabit the world one of which are humans.

The game combines PvP (player versus player) and PvE (player versus environment) two types of game play available in world of warcraft. However NCsoft have combined the two and called it PvPvE.

Although in warcraft you can obtain a flying mount in Aion flight is common place and used to get around your environment. Having the ability to spread your wings and take to the air is a great part of the game but it gets really interesting when you get into an aerial fight!

Having won Korean Game of the Year Aion is set to take the rest of the world by storm. It is very visually appealing with excellent game play and seems to combine the best of several different styles of MMORPGs.

With its smooth gameplay and awesome graphics Aion will certainly cause a storm in the gaming world. Will Aion take over from World of Warcraft? I guess we will just have to wait and see.

WoW is the biggest online game for a reason and it is always trying to improve. By releasing timely expansions, the latest being Cataclysm, Blizzard seem to be securing their market dominance.

I would not entirely rule out the possibility that Aion could give WoW a run for its money though. It really is that good of a game!
