Can Castors Save Lives?
All one has to do these days is take a quick look around and it really can seem like castors are being put to use almost everywhere.
At home they are on things like sliding windows and closet doors, at work on carts and chairs, and pretty much wherever else they can be used to make things easier. Even when you step outside they are found in many places; from shopping carts to equipment in the local car wash, on carnival rides and on kids toys.
They're simply everywhere now because not only are they labour savers but they also work to make the lives we live so much safer. How much safer? The answer there is that castors are even being commonly used to save lives. There are people who wouldn't even be alive today if it weren't for these small wheeled devices.
It all begins at the accident scene when the EMT personnel remove anybody who was injured on a gurney that's rolling on castors. It's faster and more convenient and then when they get to the ambulance, the bottom folds up so the castors still work to help it roll in easily.
Then they're all off to the hospital for emergency care after spending far less time at the scene thanks in a large part to castors. When the ambulance comes to a halt at the hospital's main entrance once again there will be a stretcher and that means that the injured party can be raced on wheels directly into the emergency room.
Now it doesn't end there, because there is one more place where they play a crucial role. Everything from the operating table to all the carts in the room will be up on them to expedite the doctors and nurses work and they also make them more mobile when they have to be taken in and out of the room.
These are specialized castors that are designed and built for functioning in sterile dust free environments. They're easier to clean and resist contamination which also helps to save lives.
If you're like most folks out there you'll also probably be surprised to discover that even after the emergency treatment is done and the accident victims sent home to recover from their injuries castors will still work to save their lives.
This is because so much of the professional medical grade home care equipment that's available is also fitted with them. Oxygen equipment, of course once again any carts and also their bed will all be rolling on them to make the home caretakers job easier.
Then if for some reason during the course of the time they're home recovering and there is a need to be taken back the hospital, they will once again expedite the process.
So not only are they everywhere when someone's life is hanging in the balance but even after the life-saving work is done they may come in handy to help them maintain a normal active lifestyle.
People who have been permanently injured in accidents and after having their lives saved by castors often end up relying on them for the rest of their lives.
