Can Fluoride In Toothpaste Be Dangerous

Taking good care of your teeth is extremely important

. Some people feel that they do not need to take as good care of their baby teeth because even if they do end up rotting out, they will soon be having adult teeth grow in in their place. Whether or not to use Fluoride can be a very controversial topic as well because it has been known to be toxic if taken in too high of a dose. Fluoride on the other hand, is what protects our teeth from tooth decay and rotting to the point where they will certainly fall out.

Fluoride can be found in most public water systems and in some privately owned wells in limited quantities. In addition to finding fluoride in water, you can also find fluoride in most toothpaste brands and even as a liquid that you can use as a mouthwash. If you happen to live somewhere that you are not on a public water system, you might talk to your dentist to see if you can get or need to have a prescription for extra Fluorite to keep your teeth healthy.

If you do need to use the Fluoride rinse, you need to remember to spit it out after swishing it around in your mouth for a minute or two without swallowing. This is one of the reasons why Fluoride is put straight into most brands of toothpaste today, so that the amount of Fluoride going into especially a child's mouth can be monitored so that young children do not ingest more than their bodies can tolerate.

The verdict on fluoride in toothpaste

There are many pros and cons of Fluoride in toothpaste, but risks of your teeth falling out due to not using Fluoride properly are much greater than accidental poisoning if you should happen to get too much into your system for one reason or another.

You need to talk to your Dentist about your own family's situation as far as where you live, what water source you get your water from, and your current brushing habits to determine if extra Fluoride is needed and if so how much. You might be able to get away with just using toothpaste with Fluoride already in it instead of having to go with the risks involved in using a Fluoride rinse or mouthwash.

Your Dentist will be able to give you different suggestions to consider for your needs as well as the needs for those in your family.
