For every blogger who is making a full time income from their blog there are one thousand others who are not. Why is this? Why does most bloggers have such a hard time making serious money from their online activities? This article will examine how bloggers make money and whether it is possible to make a full time income from a blog.

First, let's look at what a constitutes a full time income. Now, standards of living around the world vary, but most people would agree that they would need at least $2000 USD a month, and many would need considerably more. Let's say then that we will use the number of $3000 USD a month as our guidepost. At that amount and above, the blogger is earning a full time income. How many bloggers make that much a month? The fact of the matter is that there are very few, and those who do usually operate more than one blog.

Is it possible to earn this much from a single blog? Yes. The good news is that such a goal is attainable. However, unless you are selling your own product, this can be exceedingly difficult. Your blog will have to attract a minimum amount of traffic in order to do this. This amount of traffic will vary from niche to niche, but in general you will need more than 1,000 targeted visitors a day.

How can this be done? The best way to attack this goal is to create a blog on a topic that generates a lot of interest and search volume and then get it to rank on the top of the search engines for these terms. This takes time and expertise though it really only boils down to a couple of things. You will need content and links.

It can take a moment or two to reach the threshold for both of these elements. You will probably need more than 100 posts on your blog and you will probably need hundreds (or thousands or tens of thousands) of links. But, with dedication, these obstacles can be overcome.

There are other methods that will enable you to make money with your blog as well. Some people are partial to social traffic where you attract visitors from social sites such as StumbleUpon, Twitter or others. But, I have found that even though the traffic from these sources can be quick, it is always less responsive and lower converting. My best advice to make money with a single blog, is to do it the slow, hard way.

But, do not be discouraged, this can be done. If you are willing to devote the time and energy that it will require then you too can join the ranks of the full time bloggers.
