If you have wondered how can you halt overeating you initially must explore the reason or reasons that you are overeating. There could be an underlying emotional cause (a current breakup, lost a job, low self-esteem, bored, or you just like to eat). There are many reasons why people overeat. Explore your reasons openly. When you identify why you overeat it will be easier to stop.
A common reason that many people overeat is because they have given up. They tried to lose weight in the past and have failed, so why bother? When you haven't achieved your weight loss goals you continue to eat, or eat more than before and you stay at the unhealthy weight you have been at before. Discover your emotional trigger that will truly motivate you to lose weight and stick to your strategy. This is an additional way how you can discontinue overeating.
Boredom and inactivity also can play a major role as to why people overeat. They try to fill their time or bring a little excitement to their lives by eating (and typically eating too much of the incorrect kinds of food). Start exercising each day or get a hobby to fill your time. Do something that you've forever wanted to do but presently haven't. By satisfying your time with something that interests you your boredom will disappear and you won't have the need to eat all the time. Also, energetic persons tend to pick healthier foods to eat because they make them feel better than junk food.
Stress can lead to overeating. Find a way to reduce your stress and that should help you to stop overeating. Stress forces us to seek comfort. Food can be very reassuring. Often times we will indulge and overeat simply to release our stress. Exercise instead. Exercise can significantly relieve your stress and help you lose unwanted pounds. There are many emotional triggers that can lead to overeating. Anger, unhappiness, loneliness, being unsatisfied, etc. Identifying the problem can guide you in the right direction to stop this bad habit.
