Can Marriage Still be Saved After Infidelity?
Can Marriage Still be Saved After Infidelity?
Infidelity is on of the top reasons for divorce. A lot of couples split up because the husband or the wife committed extra marital affairs. This is the single most painful betrayal a person can ever experience throughout his or her marriage life. So the question lies, can an unhappy marriage still be saved despite of the infidelity of one spouse? The answer to this question lies on both the husband and wife. If both would like to try and exert every effort to try to save marriage, then it can be saved.
The most common reason for marriage breakdown is the immediate decision to go separate ways once infidelity is exposed. No matter how hurtful the situation is, no matter how bad things seem to you; do not let your marriage end just yet. Take the time to absorb everything and to clear your head first. No right decision can be made if the person is still angry and frustrated. Once you already cleared your head, ask yourself why your spouse committed such a grave mistake. Maybe you are also at fault, one way or another. Talk about it with your spouse. Focus on the reason of infidelity and not on the act itself.
It is only understandable for the spouse to get angry at the other man or the other woman in the relationship. You might want to physically hurt or confront the other party who made your life miserable. You might also feel a little insecure. Is the other party better looking than you? Does he or she have more money? Does he or she smell better than you? Is he or is she more intelligent, funnier or taller than you? Do not do this to yourself. Save yourself some agony and pain of self pity and focus more on the problem at hand.
Once you find out that your husband or your wife is being unfaithful to you, stop yourself from taking revenge. This is never the answer to the problem and it can even escalate your unhappy marriage into another level. Even if it feels unfair for you, you should not answer an infidelity with another infidelity. You will only hurt your spouse, yourself and even that of the other person you plan to be infidel with. You will regret this act in the end. If you want to help save your marriage, proper communication is necessary and not another infidelity.
Studies show that most affairs do not necessarily end in divorce. There are still couples out there who can regain the trust of each other by working on it constantly and by veering away from temptation. Going to marriage counseling is a big help as well. Here, you can discuss your feelings openly with each other, plus you get a third party to listen in your conversation and give and unbiased view, opinions and suggestions.
Some infidelity stems out of lack of attention from the other spouse. If this is the reason, you should spend more time together as a couple and reconnect with each other. After the infidelity, you can even have happier marriage because you corrected the mistake instead of run away from it.
