Different companies have different policies in place to handle deliveries that are stopped mid shipping.

If you want to stop a delivery, all you should have to do is contact your delivery company directly and let them know that you need the shipment stopped. You should have a variety of ways available to you to do this. You can probably call the company, email them directly, or put in a stop order through their account web portal. Check with the company to see what their preferred means of communication is for this type of request if you feel that it may come up at some point in time.

You may have to pay a fee of some kind for stopping your delivery in this kind of way though. Most courier companies will charge you something for anything that disrupts their normal flow of business, and this is certainly something that qualifies as such. Courier companies are required to disclose any fees and surcharges if you ask them about them however, so if you feel this might be a requirement of yours in the future, prepare yourself by asking them what it is going to cost you.

Then comes the matter of getting the package back to your location, of course. This will depend on the method of shipping that you were using. If you were shipping on an FTL basis or with a dedicated courier, they will likely simply turn around and return the shipment directly to you. If you're shipping LTL or with a regular parcel carrier, it's unlikely this will happen. You'll have to wait until it is convenient for them to ship the goods back to you.
