Can Something Be Done About Genetic Hair Loss

?

Hair loss can be quite daunting for men and women alike. It can sometimes cause a lower self-esteem, even a feeling of being unacceptable in other people's eyes. It can cause paranoia for some, and at the worst, can lead to depression. Yet, it is a natural fact of life that as we grow older, hair cells will no longer regenerate and thus, baldness will result.

Aging is one of the most common causes of hair loss. There are others who suffer from premature baldness, mostly because they have the genetic predisposition for early hair loss. For some, losing hair may result from non-genetic factors such as a hormonal imbalance, a disease, and most often, stress. There are also others who are taking medications or undergoing therapy, like chemotherapy for cancer patients who may experience the side effect of losing hair.

If hair loss is caused by non genetic factors, it is usually only temporary and hair can grow back once the triggering factor is gone. If the cause is genetic however, hair loss may be permanent, unless some steps are taken to arrest the lost of hair at an early stage.

Genetic Hair Loss Treatments

For people who are genetically predisposed to losing hair, some hair growing shampoos may do the trick, but may only do so much as slow down the process. Hair growing solutions abound in the market such as hair rejuvenation creams, oral medications, hormone therapy and at the most extreme, surgical hair replacement. These options all promise hair regrowth, however there is always the possibility that if hair does grow back, it may be thinner hair than it used to be.

Genetic hair loss is irreversible because the propensity to lose hair early is written on a person's genes. One way to deal with this problem is simply to accept the fact and live with it.

Baldness has become quite fashionable these days, anyway. In fact there are Hollywood male (and female) stars who prefer to go bald just to set their own identity. It takes a lot of courage at first to sport a bald head, but through time, you can get used to it, and so will your friends.

Of course, there is always the option to do hair transplants for men and women who are suffering from genetic hair loss. Implantation requires that you have a few healthy hair cells on your scalp before it can be done. The process involves transplanting some healthy hair cells from a part of the head into the more visible, bald areas of the head.

There are cases where other people's hair is used for the hair transplant. The whole procedure can be quite costly, and sometimes success is not assured, especially if the hair transplanted on the scalp came from someone else.

Genetic hair loss may be something you have to live with and by simply accepting it, you may well avoid the stress and the anxiety that worrying about hair loss may further cause you.
