Can There Be Anything Positive About Frozen Pipes And Water Damage?

I'd have to say that in general having frozen pipes is not a good thing

. A few years ago I would have said that the only real benefits of ice that I knew of were having nice refreshing cold water to drink, and having some where to go skating. Strangely enough, my opinion changed completely when my husband and I were out shopping for a house.

We'd been house shopping for months with no success. We'd put offers on a few houses, but we were always outbid, and we weren't in a financial situation where we felt comfortable investing more in a house than we had already decided on.

Then one day we found a house for sale in a neighborhood that we were already impressed with. Our realtor wasn't with us so we couldn't go inside, but we did wander around a little bit peeking in the windows where we could.

Pretty soon we heard a man's voice asking us if we had a real estate agent with us. We were scared that we were in some kind of trouble when we told him that we were there all by ourselves, but we were pleasantly surprised to find out that he was the listing realtor for the house so he could let us inside for a look around.

Well, what we saw when we got inside was a bit surprising. Parts of the house were carpeted and looked as good as new, while others had the carpet all ripped up. The kitchen even had all of the cabinets removed and put in a safe place in the garage.

The realtor explained that when the last renters had moved out, they had turned off the power, but forgot to turn off the water. This resulted in some pretty severe water damaged.

Because of that, the house was selling for a very affordable price and fortunately for us, the previous home owner's insurance was going to be doing all the repairs and clean up necessary to make it livable again.

We were ecstatic to find out that we could get such a great deal on a beautiful house with a million dollar view from the back porch. We called up our realtor and put an offer on the house the next day.

Of course there's no way that we would want to subject our house to any kind of water damage now, but we still are thankful for those frozen pipes that aided us in getting into a beautiful and affordable home.
