Can You Beat The Dust Mite?

Dust mites pose a problem for many allergy sufferers

, and the debate on whether or not they can be eliminated from the home is a hot one. So pervasive are these pesky critters that doctors estimate that up to 70 percent of asthma patients experience a sensitivity to dust mites.

It isn't the dust mite itself that causes the problem really, but their waste. Since dust mites do nothing but feed and eliminate, their waste can accumulate quickly and reach every person in the home. While there may be no way at the moment to completely eliminate them, there are things people are learning about dust mites that can help you lessen their affect on your home.

The biggest thing to come about yet is latex mattresses. Latex mattresses are a type of natural mattress considered to be organic. It is not the organic factor that makes latex mattresses so impactful in terms of dust mites, however; it is the material itself. Dust mites will live in the core of your standard mattress with ease. However, the natural mattress made of latex poses a serious threat to the dust mite; for the bug cannot live in latex.

If you would like to stop sharing your bed with the dust mite, do more than just wash your sheets every week; look into the natural mattress made of latex. Covering the mattress with a dust proof cover will give added protection against the bug as well.

It has been well-documented that the dust mite loves humidity. So depending on the environment you live in, you may need to consider installing a whole house de-humidifier to help with dust mite problems. In cold winter months, a homes central heating system will dry out the air somewhat; but it is unknown just how much that will help with dust mites. There are also individual room dehumidifiers, but they are more effective in smaller rooms than larger ones.

Carpets are another area where dust mites love to live. Since you can't steam clean your carpets every week, you should consider changing to a hard floor surface if you really want to rid your home of dust mites. If you do not have the ability to change the flooring in your home, then the vacuum cleaner you use could play a large part in really getting all the dust and waste out of your carpets.

There are not vacuum cleaner bags on the market that are really effective at helping your vacuum operate at full capacity and keep dust in the bag at the same time. Some of the new technology on the market may be worth looking into. Bags are a thing of the past and the best thing so far that seems to work in cleaning and keeping all particles in the unit and out of the air is the water vacuum.

Because particles get trapped in the water basin, there is no where for them to escape. Further, because there is no build-up inside the bag, the motor of this type of cleaner offers steady suction that is strong enough to clean down to the pad underneath carpet.
