Tobacco smokers have one of the strongest addictions that there is to break permanently

Just like the people that are addicted to other things like food, alcohol, or drugs, tobacco smokers will try to give up cigarettes, but often find themselves coming back to them time and time again. Sometimes smokers can even be quit for years and then one day give in and light up a cigarette and become dependent on them all over again. There does not seem to be any good reason associated with taking up smoking suddenly again after being quit for so long other than the fact that most addictions are for life even if a person gives them up for a while.

The good thing is that when a smoker has been stopped for a while, the cravings to smoke do lessen and life becomes bearable living without cigarettes. That occasional craving that a former smokers gets can be more easily overcome than when they first started their quitting process. People use a variety of different things in order to help them give up smoking, but sometimes once they have released the crutch that helped them, they find they are not able to continue staying quit on their own. This is the time when so many smokers revert back to it full time. They might have spent months using nicotine patches or chewing nicotine gum, even using prescription pills, but once they go off the program and find themselves completely on their own, their willpower goes down the drain.

Quitting smoking even with the help of some of these stop smoking aids is never easy for most tobacco cigarette smokers. Just as with other addictions, they have to learn to take their addiction one craving at a time and then one day at a time and so on. The desire to give up anything that a person might be addicted to must come from the inside and in the end it is always up to them whether or not they continue to live without whatever they are addicted to. There are things that can make it easier such as finding other things to fill in the times when they used smoke such as reading or walking. Some people use food as their crutch, but this often leads to becoming over weight and that is not good either.

Do not hang around where people are smoking. This can be difficult if your family or your spouse smokes. You have to learn to distance yourself from those that do smoke, not that you do not see them anymore, you just have to learn to walk away whenever they light up. Ask them to not smoke around you when you are trying to quit. If they love you as they should, they should have no problem not smoking in front of you.


You can learn to live without tobacco, but for those that have had trouble giving up the smoking habit all together, many of them are using an electronic cigarette instead. It might not mean that you have over come your addiction to nicotine or the habit of holding and inhaling from a cigarette, but an e cigarette is about as close as you can get.
