Canada Walleye Fishing On Lac Seul
If you happen to be a walleye fisherman then you are probably aware that Canada is considered the goldmine when it comes to these fish
. One of the best locations in which you can have success is that of the 150 km long Lac Seul. Lac Seul is around 200 miles north of the American border and is known for its waters that somewhat resemble tea in color. Home to a great deal of walleyes from spring to fall, many vacations are made to this lake.
For our trip, we decided on settling in at the Gold Pine Camp located out of Ear Falls. Considered a classic fishing resort, we excitedly unpacked and headed straight for the lake. Once we were down the waterway a bit we soon spotted a location where it looked as if a slight current met the more calm water of the lake and could very possibly be stirring at the bottom just enough.
Going with minnows and jigs for bait, we began slowly trolling back and forth. True to Canadian lakes, the bottom was full of rocks so we moved at a rather slow pace, trying to keep the lines as vertical as we could. In no time at all, we had caught our very first walleye and were eager to catch more. This time we decided to move into 12 feet deep water beginning at the tip of the point, towards the river, and then back. We caught one more but decided to return it to the water as the next day we could fish long enough to be able to catch enough fish for our dinner that night.
Sure enough, the next days fishing trip did not disappoint us in the least. We caught over 30 walleye fish all with the same combinations of minnows and jigs, and trolling the waters slowly around the point. We decided to keep the smaller walleye for out dinner that night and agreed that the next day we would test other spots out along the islands. Unfortunately, we never did catch much more than a few smaller fish and it looked as if we had our best luck fishing off of that point.
In the end, we decided on heading back to the point where we fished for a total of three days. While we did try other locations and baits, nothing quite compared to the jigs and minnows that we used around that point.
