Islas Canarias or Canary Islands are the group of islands that belong to Spain
Canary Islands are the furthest part of Spain and European Union in general. This autonomous community of Spain is located on the northwest African coast. Some of the larger islands are Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, La Palma, Los gracioso, Alegranza, La Gomera, El Hierro and Montaa Clara. Each of these islands has a characteristic landscape and each one is different even though they are part of the same archipelago. Although the islands are close to Morocco, the original inhabitants of these islands, called Guanches, were white.
Canary Islands are visited by 12 million people a year
This is one of the greatest attractions since 1960's, when Spanish dictator Franco turned them into a tourist spot.
On the island of Tenerife, which is the most visited of all, there is the highest mountain in Spain. This is the third largest volcano in the world and is located in the Teide National Park.
The climate is sub-tropical. Around 2000000 people make the Canary Islands population.

The name comes from the Latin words Insula Canaria, which probably has the meaning "Island of the Dogs."
Canary Islands, due to their location, are the subject of constant disputes between Spain and Morocco.
Canary Island's official religion is Roman Catholic and the islands have two Diocese-Dicesis Canariense and Dicesis Nivariense.
The Islands of Canary archipelago
Tenerife is the largest and the most popular island where about one million people live. On this island lies one of the two capital cities; also, the seat of Canarian Parliament is located on Tenerife. San Cristobal de La Laguna, one of the major cities here, was declared as a World Heritage site by UNESCO and it has the oldest university on Canary Islands.
Gran Canaria is the second island in terms of population. It has a conical shape; in the center of the island there is the highest peak - Peak of Snow that lies at an altitude of 1,949m.
La Palma is the second largest island but it has only 100,000 inhabitants. There are a lot of volcanoes; the last activity was noticed in 1971.
El Hierro belongs to a group of smaller islands of the Canary archipelago. Once upon a time, this island was considered as the most western point of the world.
Fuerteventura is an island with typical oriental architecture. The biosphere of the island is under protection of UNESCO.
And, believe it or not, there is no such thing that Canary Islands cannot offer
