Cannon Fuse And Fireworks Fuse
Fireworks are used for a variety of situations
, such as birthdays, weddings, New Year, and at many other mega events across the world. The lustrous kaleidoscope of the colors that emanates from the fireworks creates a splendid display, making the event memorable and truly beautiful. Although there is a huge variety of firework available today, the basic principle for each one of them is pretty much the same. At the heart of the every magnificent display lies the cannon fuse.
The cannon fuse is used as an ignition device in a firework. When the fuse is lit, it burns rapidly in to the core of the firework, gives off hot exhaust gases that fire backwards and send the firework shooting through the air. As the cannon fuse continues to burn through the firework, it ignites the loosely packaged material in the firework that gives off the bright colors or multiple explosions.
The cannon fuse, also called as visco fuse is the most popularly used firework fuse. It comprises of a thread soaked in black powder, wrapped in to different layers of twine, and coated in nitrocellulose lacquer. Traditionally, it was used as gun powder in war fares. The earliest use of the cannon fuses dates back to 1279 during the invasion of China by the Mongols.
Even today, cannon fuse is used in a vast majority of the consumer fireworks as it doesn't extinguish easily once lit. It continues to burn even in rain, wind, and when submersed in water. Further, this firework fuse burns without shooting sudden sparks and creating side splits. The only disadvantage with the cannon fuse is that it burns rather slowly, approximately 2.5 inches per second, making it a bad option for the fireworks that are separated by a long distance.
The advancements made in the field of pyrotechnics have however completely revolutionized the cannon fuse. From being used merely as an ignition device, now days it is used as a remote control device for producing special effects.
Another commonly used
fireworks fuse is black match and quick match. Black match comprises a black powdered soaked cotton string and it burns at about 1 inch per second. Quick match is almost similar in nature to the Black Match, but has a loose paper 'pipe' fitted inside it for pushing forward the gases and increasing the burning speed of the firecrackers. This type of firework fuse is used for igniting hundreds of fireworks simultaneously.
These days one can also find electric firework fuse that comprise thin filament and a heating compound for giving away hot flames and sparks when a small current is passed through the leads of the fuse.
