Too often, critics emphasize their original date of purchase of the DSLR camera is processed the event. "I could not believe I got pictures (fill in the blank)." So when the camera arrived, I pulled out of the test shots. Since I am a novice, I initially set the camera to automatic. The first thing I discovered was disheartening. But when I called Canon customer service (which incidentally is excellent) questions and the guy said I was disappointed in my photographs. He explained that the camera could only do so much. Well, that clarifies things for me. Unless you want to invest a thousand dollars or more L lens, I had no hope of getting more high quality pictures. I could probably stumble a mistake, but that was all I could hope for.
However, after lowering my expectations, I began to really enjoy this camera. After transferring temporarily Advanced (I self-correct some of the other settings manually), I was not happy with the photos that I received. And I'm really glad I upgraded to 18-135mm, because it gives me the versatility I want without having to change lenses.
Bottom line: if you have more modest expectations of going to (your friends do not ooh and ahh with pictures, and you do not see them in National Geographic), they love this camera.
