Are you familiar with the show How It's Made that airs on the Discovery Channel? If so, you are probably aware of the tedious process these products go through starting out as a raw material and ending with a finished product. Within the different episodes of How It's Made they show the different machines that are involved in the different stages of the completion of the product. The show demonstrations popular items that curious people have always wondered how they were made, such as bottled foods and beverages.

As tedious and dangerous as these machines may look, they are extremely accurate and intelligent. They use software recognition that identifies faulty products which then are removed from the production line without any interaction from humans. This type of technology is known as Servo. Most machines if not all are equipped with servo software decreasing the chance of error and waste.

Throughout all the machines involved in the production line the one that holds the most responsibility outside the manufacturing facility is the capping machine. These machines can manage glass, plastic, metals and foils safely and efficiently. Listed below are four different types of capping machines and their functions.

Spindle Cappers: this capper accommodates a wide variety of cap and bottle configurations without the need for change parts. Typically when you twist of a cap to your favorite soda these machines put that cap there in the first place. They can be configured as fully automatic cappers, semi-automatic cap tighteners or as re-torquing devices after an induction sealer.

Snap Cappers: this capper can also accommodate a wide variety of configurations without change parts. These caps aren't as popular as the twist-off caps, because they aren't as secure. The modular design allows it to be configured as fully automatic capper or a semi-automatic completion unit for hand placed caps.

Spindle/Snap Cappers: a durable and versatile capper that is able to sort, place and complete a wide range of both screw and snap caps. These capping machines are known to do it all however there are a few change parts involved decreasing productivity.

Chuck Cappers: this single or dual head capper is designed to maximize the speed of your packaging line while maintaining consistent torque on your caps. Torque being the tightness of the cap placed on the container. Thanks to modern technology, these machines really do maintain a consistent tightness.

The ingenious design of a cap has come a long way, now informing the user if the container has been tampered with before they purchase it. The infamous Snapple cap pops to insure the consumer it is fresh and the plastic soda cap that peals apart from the lower rim which also insures the product is fresh. These capping machines have a lot of responsibility, giving the product as long a shelf like as possible and making sure the product is safe to consume. If these caps are not applied correctly, the container is wasted lowering revenue.
