Captains speak out about Tiger's wildcard

Ryder Cup captains Colin Montgomerie and Corey Pavin have spoken out about the inclusion of Tiger Woods as a Ryder Cup wildcard for the American team.

Pavin picked the world number one along with Stewart Cink (Odyssey White Stell 2-ball Srt Putter), Zach Johnson and Rickie Fowler, but he doesn't see it as a risk.

"I was hoping he would qualify on points, but he didn't and so I waited to see how he played," he said.

"He is one of 12 on the team and everyone is just as important. The objective is to have 12 players that make up Team USA and have one goal in mind.

"I think our team is very good and I think these four complement the other eight very well. That was the goal."

Meanwhile, Monty has expressed his delight at (Odyssey White Hot XG Putter)Woods' inclusion at Celtic Manor. And surprisingly not because of the 34-year-old's miserable record in the competition.

"Like my European team, the American side has an excellent blend of youthful talent and I am delighted to see Tiger Woods amongst Corey's sel ections the Ryder Cup is a better event with him in it," said the Scot.

"Corey has used his four captain's picks to good effect, as I knew he would, and I'm glad we now know the 12 men we will face at Celtic Manor."

Woods is expected to play with Steve Stricker (Muzino Mp 53 irons), with whom he won all four matches at the Presidents Cup in San Fransisco last year.

Pavin added: "There are a lot of combinations out there and I'm not afraid to put anybody with anybody. Nothing is set in stone yet."
