Personal security and safety is vital in your car. Our vulnerability to crime increases while we are driving, coming and going from our vehicle, and as we go about our business focused on our tasks. The following tips are intended to help you guard your personal safety and belongings in and around the car.

Whenever possible, dont drive alone or at night. If you must shop at night, park in a well-lighted area. Further considerations when choosing a parking space: Avoid parking next to vans, trucks with camper shells, or cars with tinted windows. And park as close as you can to

where you are going. Dont forget to take note of where you parked!

Do not leave packages or valuables in plain view or on the seat of your car. This is just a temptation for thieves. If you must leave something in the car, lock it in the trunk or put it out of sight.

Keep all car doors locked and windows closed. This is important while you are inside your vehicle as well as when you leave it. When leaving your car, set your alarm or use an anti-theft device. Remember: never leave your motor running unoccupied or with children inside!

Get your keys out before you go to your car. Be aware of your surroundings when approaching and leaving your vehicle. Keep a secure hold on your purse, handbag and parcels. Do not put them down or on top of the car in order to open the door.

Never approach your car alone if there are suspicious people in the area. Ask mall or store security for an escort before leaving your shopping location
