The windshield is an under-appreciated component of todays automobile - its aerodynamic

design helps shape the cars leading edge, but it also protects the occupants from weather and road debris. Windshields can also be chemically coated to block harmful ultra-violet radiation and are specially laminated to promote cohesion in the event of an accident.

However, the windshield is far from invincible; extreme cold, errant stones, ice, and hail can all crack, chip, or even shatter a windshield. Impacts can leave cracks and chips in the windshield that must be repaired quickly, no matter how small; due to the high density of the glass in the windshield, even a miniscule chip can quickly spread to a large crack. Much of this damage can be repaired without removing the windshield, thus preventing any leaking or bonding issues from occurring when the windshield is replaced.

Windshield Repair

Windshield repair is a relatively simple do-it-yourself project which can be finished with little expenditure. Clear adhesive resins are commercially available which are injected into the crack and then cured with an ultra-violet light. This restores the repaired area's strength as well as clarity.

Eastwood's Windshield Repair Kit is an affordable option to repair damage from pebbles and stones, which only penetrate the outer layer of the laminated glass. The unique resin in this kit penetrates the glass surface to fill and seal breaks and cures in sunlight, eliminating the need for special ultra-violet lamps. If the damage is severe and could potentially degrade the structural integrity of the windshield, it may need to be replaced but many chips and cracks can be repaired.
