Career Change - How To Get Into The Account Management Sector
A career in account management is not for the meek
. You but have the tenacity and drive to want to always be better and do better. There are always jobs in this position because it is based upon your sales skills as to how well you succeed. If you want a job where you have a better control over your income a career in the account management sector might be for you.
What type of work experience do you have? If you have any experience in sales, customer service or business then this might be a perfect fit. Many industries that would be very similar are advertising, real estate, and mortgage finance. All of these positions have one thing in common. Incomes are purely based upon the efforts of the worker. If you cannot deal with people nor have the gift of gab then this might not be the job for you.
Do you handle duties and responsibilities without supervision? Are you a natural born leader? These are the qualities needed to perform the job functions for this job. If you have proof that you can attest to in your job interviews that might help you to land a position. Companies like to see specific details on your resume' of things that you did that increased sales, or saved customers, or even improved a way something was done. Companies like results. If you can prove it make sure that you list in on your resume' and talk about it to your interviewer.
Most of these positions require a four year college degree. So if you've been putting off college go and find out how many courses you need to complete your degree. Some schools now even accept life experience for college credit. It is easier to get a position within a company that you are already working for. If you can speak with the manager and see what the job entails and what they are looking for indicate that you are interested. Find out what you need to do to get transferred to that job. Don't give up. Getting the job might be easier than you think. Sometimes all you need to do is ask, inquire, and put in your application. Most companies would rather hire from within as they are already acclimated to the company environment.
Networking is an often underused word. Many people understand the concept but don't actually apply it. Let everyone that you know about your job interest. You will be casting a wide net by telling as many people as you can so that they can in turn bring back any leads for you. Another idea is to join your local business organization many times managers that work at the companies that you are interested are members. By rubbing shoulders with these people first hand they will get to know you and you them. They will clue you in on any upcoming job openings many times before they are even posted and you could be hired.
