Career Development: Is Practice The Best Of Instructors?

Taking advantages of ones working experience

Practice is considered to be the best of instructors. The fact that hard and prolonged work is helpful for enhancing ones proficiency is undeniable. Due to the gap between the theoretical materials and real working process, most college graduates lack skills necessary for becoming good specialists. Applying ones knowledge in actual practice, workers learn all the angles of their profession. For example, an experienced engineer is able to detect the breaking listening to the sound of a working machine.

Experienced workers can do their work with brains on autopilot. Still, this ability cuts both ends. It may result in overlooking certain important details and making mistakes. Doing similar assignments day by day, some employees might overlearn the material. Then it is difficult for them to pay attention to separate elements and additional factors. At the same time some professionals are so self-assured in their proficiency that they are unable to accept any constructive criticism. It may limit their opportunities for further professional and career growth and have negative impact on the working process in general.

Continuing professional development

No matter how experienced the employee might be, he/she should continue ones professional development. Career growth requires such personal qualities as flexibility and thirst for new knowledge. Every employee should consider the following principles:

1.Progress never stops. New discoveries are made every day. It is impossible to know everything in the sphere. Both young and experienced specialists need to devote time to self-education.

2. It is advisable to share ones experience with colleagues. Some employees prefer keep their professional secrets. Still, collaborative work might be much more effective.

3.A person should be flexible and consider opportunities of implementation of the innovative technologies and optimization of the working process.
