The socially responsible job hunts is a job hunt just like every other one. Well, almost like any other. According to Susan Cohn, author of green At Work, a book that profiles people who have created environmental opportunities in their jobs, there are ways to make it easier.

Start where you are. Every job offers some opportunity to take on a cause. You can start a car pool, organize a recycling program, or write some articles about your favourite cause for the company newsletter.

Identify what skills you can bring to the work-place. A company won't hire you just because you are interested in their cause.

Decide what you like to do. If you are interested in art, don't become a hazardous waste cleanup specialist.

Show commitment to the work by volunteering. An employer will want to see that you have experience in the area, and you may find that it's not as glamorous as you thought.

Use your networks. Research the area and narrow it to several choices, then use any contacts to get you in the door.

Set a salary level. Any switch in industries can mean a temporary salary reduction.

Don't give up. Opportunities are opening up every day, Just be creative and diligent, and you will eventually find the organization that you click with.
