Carefully Reviewing Your Car Rental Agreement
So you head to the rental agency to pick up your car hire and you are handed this long
, wordy document to initial, initial again, and then sign. Many people don't take the time to read this document, after all, they know what they are getting into, or do they? Honestly most people are okay with the idea that they gathered only correct information from the person they made the reservation with and they asked their questions and received what they felt were straight up answers. But what recourse do you have if the rental agent steers you wrong? None at all.
Once you have signed your rental agreement that is what you have agreed to and even if this document has statements in it that are completely contrary to what you thought you heard or what the reservations representative said the company will say that you shouldn't have signed the documents and they would be absolutely correct. While these documents may represent exactly what the rental agent told you there are no guarantees unless you have read through the entire rental agreement.
So what are the things you should look in your lease? Well, to begin the rate per quarter, and the duration of the lease, and the number of miles included with your rental. You want information on a topic of their responsibility and yours and also what their policy is about roadside assistance.
We want to make sure that the insurance is either included or excluded depending on which way to go and that the agreement provides for an exact price for the taxes, surcharges, and the extras on it. You will then want to make sure that the information about the vehicle you are accurate, such as the rental is the exact starting mileage and fuel level.
If you don't want any surprises at the tail end of your rental then you will need to make sure that you read over carefully the agreement that you are signing and question anything that does not make sense or that you don't understand. It is important to know what you are getting into before you sign on the dotted line. Your rental agreement is a contract and you not only should honor your side of the agreement but also make sure that the rental company lives up to theirs, which you can't do if you haven't read it.
