Carnivals In Paraguay

At least once during your childhood you have been sitting in front of the TV watching colorful carnival

. The most well known carnivals is the one in Rio de Janeiro. Growing up we got to know about other different carnivals around the world. Riot of colors, dances, trains and music are integral part of every single event of such kind.

Everybody knows about carnival in Italy, Brazil, Dominican or Spain, but not many of us heard about Paraguayan carnival. Since 1916 Encarnacion situated to the south of the country has been holding annual carnival of Paraguay. This city is well known as the Capital of carnival. This carnival has long history and long ago became traditional. The noisiest and the funniest event lasts for eight nights.

As this is the most spectacular holiday in Paraguay dedicated to samba, a lot of tourists come to this city to enjoy dancers in colorful costumes. Encarnacion is carnival capital of the country where all main carnivals and parties are held. Usually carnival consists of festivities with circus elements, masquerade and celebrations in the street.

Besides Encarnacion there are other carnivals in Paraguay. They are held in the cities of Villarrica and Caacupe.

Festival of Villarrica traditionally starts from coronation of the Queen of carnival and of the King Momo. If Encarnacion has a reputation of the capital of carnival, Villarricca is known as Republica of carnival. Main events of this carnival are competitions and parades.

At the same moment Caacupe unofficial spiritual capital of Paraguay is well known for its gigantic dolls. Dancers entertain the public performing on them. The carnival in Caacupe is quite popular among tourists due to the fact of being very close to Acuncion.

Another interesting festival Arete Guazu is held at the same moment as others carnivals in Maria Auxiliadora. Its distinguished from traditional carnivals by great influence of Guarani Indians. Festival is dedicated to Aguero and during the celebration they thank him for good harvest and prosperity. The celebration is characterized by drinking of great amount of chichi.

As you can see a lot of interesting events are held in Paraguay. The only thing which you need to do: to choose a city, to book a hotel in Paraguay and order tickets. Be quick, carnival waits for us.
