Carpets In The Workplace: 5 Reasons Why They Are Superior To Wood

There's just something about wooden floors varnished or un-varnished they look beautiful

, transform an otherwise dull room into a place of interest, and generally give any place, large or small, a kind of decadence.

But in the workplace, where rules need to be followed and people looked after, it's a different story; while wooden floors might be suitable in some rare circumstances, it's fair to say that for most workplaces, contract carpets win hands down and make life a much better place for all involved.

Here are 5 reasons why:

1) Health and safety: 15 years ago, health and safety wasn't of huge concern you did your job and got on with it. Nowadays the tables have turned, and although it's true that many health and safety rules make working life more difficult, in the case of wooden floors they make it easier and safer. One reason why commercial carpets win over wood is obvious, and it's something we can all appreciate, whether we've worked in an office environment or not: if you're in a chair that has wheels on, rolling around on carpet is easy and smooth. On a wooden floor, however, the wheels can easily get jammed in the gaps between the wood, throwing people off their chairs or making life generally difficult.

2) Noise: wooden floors look great, but if you have equipment being moved around on them especially on anything but a ground floor it's going to get noisy and this will inevitably cause distractions. With professionally laid contract carpets, the noise is absorbed and the working atmosphere isn't at all affected. Life goes on as per usual, and this means efficiency is kept at a good level.

3) Cleaning: without doubt, commercial carpets are far easier to hoover and keep clean than wooden floors are. Although wooden floors are easily swept, dust accumulates in the gaps and that's never a good thing where people with allergies are concerned. With a carpet you never get that problem, and the best thing is that if there are any spillages these can be easily removed and won't stain the floorboards, creating a very ugly sight.

4) Fire resistant: modern contract carpets are safer, more comfortable to walk on and more fire-proof than ever before should a fire break-out, there will be damage but the carpet will have been designed to stop the spread of fire as quickly as possible. Wooden floors are quite the opposite...should a fire occur, the wood acts as a serious catalyst which could destroy the entire building within mere minutes.

5) No splinters: for as long as there has been floorboards, there has been splinters, and members of staff have been sent off to hospital, meaning a loss of income for the company. In workplaces, splinters from floorboards aren't a common thing, but even so, having good commercial carpets laid down eliminates any possibility and keeps things nice and simple.
