Cars That Are Very Loud
On the outside, it looked great, and even the apartment that I shared with one other girl was nice as well
. However, what wasn't so nice was the fact that many of the other college students were extremely loud, particularly where there cars were involved.
It is one thing to own an older model car. However, it is quite another thing to own an older model car and then soup it up so that the engine is remarkably louder than it really should be. Frustratingly, it seems as if there aren't enough police officers dishing out citations for this (because it is an offense). In another residential community that I lived in- one that was based around young professionals, there was a restriction in place that did not allow residents to house motorcycles, trailers, Rvs and the like. Although this rule seemed a little strict, I completely understood why it was in place and appreciated it. Too often, people purchase vehicles without thinking of how other people around them might feel. Sure, you might love the feel of the wind in your face, but do you really think that your elderly neighbors appreciate the sound of you revving your motorcycle's engine at midnight?
Loud cars are often in violation of your state's motor vehicle law whereby the unnecessary 'loud noise' is considered noise pollution. Why, recently, when I was in New York visiting my grandmother, I was parking the car outside of her home in the city when I looked up and noticed a sign that read No Honking Allowed; $350 fine. I couldn't believe it. I could still remember a time when we would go into the city as a family to visit my grandmother and honking horns was all that you could hear everywhere you went. I assumed that this sign meant no unnecessary honking with the exception being to warn someone as a means of preventing an accident.
The next time you purchase a car, make sure that you are purchasing one in which the engine noise is low. If the engine seems loud, this may be a good indication that there is a problem with the vehicle. Also, be aware of what the rules are for owning a car in the area that you live. You may not realize it at the time that there are many restrictions in place as to the type of vehicle you may own. For example, someone who is looking to buy a horse trailer because they own horses may want to think twice if they live in a townhome community where trailers are not permitted. Similarly, someone who is thinking about inviting their motorcycle buddies over for a few drinks may want to think about hosting the party somewhere else because many neighborhoods are developing a low tolerance for vehicles such as motorcycles, which make a lot of noise. Whatever you decide, just be considerate of your neighbors and other people in the area when you purchase a vehicle.
