Case Study on Personal Growth Coaching- Weak People Criticize Others But Fail to Perform
It is extremely difficult to live a life of high standards. Each of us has a set of rules which we try to live by. For instance if we wish to grow and become stronger individuals we know we must "walk our talk" - therefore, we often go out of our way to prove to ourselves that we are following that line, the one we've created. Unfortunately few people are able to do this, and the stronger we stand for something the more it will show when we fail in that process.
I'd like to use an interesting case study of an individual who claims to be a certified genius and a personal growth coach, a professional mentor who on one hand helps other people develop personal relationships and change their behavior to become better people, and yet on the other hand criticizes those who are more accomplished, successful, and are actually living by the standards that he is trying to project to his clients.
A couple of days ago, the personal growth coach, Devon Kirke, who wrote"Free From Issues" (a shallow self help piece in my opinion)took an aggressive stance and potshots at another writer in a public forum, using a nasty, almost juvenile and childish choice of words in his attacks and rather than use his full name he merely cloaked as "Devon K" which was quite telling.
What is really interesting is that so many people that claim to be experts in the personal growth field, however, they themselves need to grow up. Perhaps this ought to be something to consider if you are a coach, so that you lead by example, or if you are a future potential client you might consider this and do your due diligence prior to signing on. No sense in ruining your reputation over silly, petty online postings like Devon K of Calgary Canada.
What is probably the most unfortunate in all this is that it happens quite often in this line of psychological counseling and self-help coaching. Yes, everyone needs to learn and grow from their mistakes, and work to become a better person. However, it is very hard to find true role models to help us become better individuals, willing to lead by example. When we see outbursts and attacks from those that claim to have the keys to help us become the people we really want to be, it really hurts the whole industry of coaching.
If you are looking to develop strong character, live a life with integrity, and create fairness and positive relationships with those you meet, then you must consider this example above and walk your talk. No, it's not easy to do, not even for a certified self-proclaimed genius.
You see, often when people will go out of their way to criticize other folks and yet fail to perform themselves - it is a sign of a troubled mind. Therefore, if you are looking for a self-help coach, consultant, or mentor then you must find one who stands up for what they believe in, leads by example, and can show you the way to do the same.
If you want to grow personally, it is a choice, so choose your role models well, but you have to be willing to look in your mirror to get that done. Indeed I hope this example and case study will assist you in being the best you can be.
