CAT stands for Common Admission Test jointly conducted by All Indian Institutes of Managements (IIMS). List of IIMs following CAT score are IIM AHMEDABAD, IIM BANGALORE,IIM CALCUTTA, IIM INDORE, IIM LUCKNOW, IIM KOZHIKODE, IIM SHILLONG. The number of candidates appear for CAT every year is around 3- 3.5 lack. There are three steps in the selection procedure of CAT- the written test, group discussion and at last personal interview. CAT follows negative marking scheme. Each correct answer carries one mark and incorrect deducts 1/3 mark. Score of CAT entrance exam is evaluated in percentile form, but the total exam pattern is divided into three major sections- problem solving, data interpretation and verbal reasoning.

In CAT no one can guarantee you about the type and nature of question to be asked. There are various types of questions from various topics from different sections. The candidate can have a better idea about the paper pattern by looking and practicing previous year paper. Cut off list for every section in the exam is different for every year. There is no such cut off as individual sectional cut off for the exam. The time and effort one should put in his preparation is entirely depends on his abilities and capabilities. The time factor needed for preparation cant be answered in concrete terms, but generally for problem solving section two to three months, for reasoning section two months and for verbal section dedicated four months are enough.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE AND SYLLABUS DETAILS

Aspirants can obtain a CAT application form from selected branches of AXIS bank by paying the form fee. CAT application forms should be sent to the nearest IIM. The entire form is having 35 inquiry boxes. The candidates have to fill the boxes according to asking details, the details are ranging from personal details to academic background of the aspirants.

The written test of CAT is divided into three major sections and the questions are asked from the following topics-

1) Problem solving- The topics covered in this section are arithmetic, algebra, geometry and advanced mathematics.

2) Reasoning - The topics covered in reasoning section of CAT is data interpretation, data sufficiency and logical reasoning.

3) Verbal Ability- Topics covered are reading comprehension and verbal usage and ability.


While preparing for CAT candidate should be considered the following points in mind. Effective study skills and planning strategies are the basis of success. The candidate should know his abilities and capacity to work hard and have patience throughout the preparation period. He should be well managing his time and resources to maximise his efficiency and effective of doing a task. Doing meditation and other activities to improve concentration and focus will definitely give a good result.
