There are a number of different cat skin problems that you need to be aware of so you can keep an eye out for them. If you find that your cat has a skin problem you should let your veterinarian know.

Macule a change in the color of the skin
Nodule an elevated bump on the skin
Papule an elevated skin lesion
Postule a pus-filled lesion
Tumor- large tissue mass
Vesicle a lump underneath the skin
Wheal a raised area that heals quickly
There are a number of different potential causes of these skin problems. Some of these causes include allergies, fleas, mites, ringworm, fungus and cancer. It is important that you carefully examine your cat's skin if they have any skin problems that you notice.
You should alert your veterinarian if you find that your cat has a skin problem that is not healing itself (e.g. a wheal will generally heal quickly on its own). Your veterinarian will examine your cat closely to determine what the cause of the skin problems are. They will want to rule things out and determine what the cause and treatment is.
Your cat will probably have to undergo a number of different tests which you should not worry about. It is normal for a vet to want to do a thorough exam and make sure he or she can identify the cause of the skin problems.
The treatment can include special shampoos, ointments, medications and possibly antibiotics. This will all be determined once your vet is able to determine the underlying cause of the skin problems. You will want to make sure you follow the veterinarian's directions carefully in order to help alleviate the cat skin problems and any underlying cause.
