Catalogues To Replace Dogs?
Catalogues are a shopaholic's best friend
Catalogues are a shopaholic's best friend. They eagerly anticipate the arrival of a batch of new ones in the mailbox and newspaper, or cleverly bookmark their favourite shops online in order to receive it electronically. You will never see a "No junk mail" sticker placed on their letterbox. They then place themselves on the lounge, perhaps with a laptop, or plonk themselves in front of their desktop, boil a cup of coffee, crack their knuckles and lose themselves for hours perusing their catalogues of choice. Dare not interrupt them whilst in this mode!
It may appear to some that the shopaholic is wasting time. But they are in fact strategically mapping out their route and planning their line of attack of the shops when the new catalogue comes into play. Sometimes they can be heard muttering "Got that already" or "That's not cheap, such and such has it for half the price". The rustling of paper interrupts the cone of silence. Markers circle or cross out certain items with a nod or shake of the head.
See, catalogues are more than just pieces of paper stapled together. They are a way of communicating to the general public the items that can be purchased, normally at a discounted price, from a variety of stores. They have come a long way since they were just black and white pieces of rough paper thrown together. Catalogues can now be glossy items, looking more like magazines.
Bookshops, hardware shops, grocery shops, jewelry shops, camera shops and clothes shops can use a catalogue. The list is endless. They can represent big brand names or local businesses just starting on the market. Whole shopping centres can band together and put out a catalogue that displays a whole outfit with items taken across a number of shops.
Shopaholics cleverly manipulate this tool by circling wanted items and leaving them throughout their home in order for their loved ones to pick up the hint.
You can tell a true shopaholic: they are the ones that pick up the catalogues in the shop despite having one already at home.
