There are several crappie-fishing methods to catch crappie under all types of conditions
. I have
included a proven way to help you improve your catch when the fish are shy biting. This method has worked for me when you find the fish under calm water conditions or when they become fussy about biting.

Crappie fishing days when they are biting with a shy bite can be overcome sometimes by using this method under the right conditions.
Mr. Mick Thill taught this method to me many years ago when I was an owner of a bait and tackle store. I am sure you are aware of his products. He was often present at tackle buying shows and was willing to provide dealers with information.
Start with a long stemmed float, add your hook, then weight with split shot until only the tip (normally red or yellow or both) is showing above the surface of the water. A very small portion of the float will be visible at this time. I use number six gold hook and various sizes of split shot to obtain the correct balance of the float. Small minnows are always my bait of choice when using this method.
This makes seeing difficult if the conditions are windy or the lake has a heavy chop on it. You will find this works well in calm conditions when fish are not overly aggressive.
The beauty of this arrangement is you can detect a bite if the float goes up or down. You will see the bite when the fish picks up your bait, which removes the resistance of the split shot, and your float goes up.
We all know the answer when it goes down. Right?
I think you will see that this method has it merits and will be thrilled to see a float rising for the first time while using it to catch crappie.
