Amenhotep III were constructed the major part of the temple, the colonnade as well as the sun court. The entrance pylon and two obelisks of this place were constructed by Ramses III. Chapels were built by the Alexander and Tuthmosis III.

At the time of roman era, whole temple and its surroundings was the legionary fortress. It is the home of old Roman government in this area. Tourists are impressed with its ancient art work and forget their all tensions at least for a moment. Sacred fig Bodhi tree is also called as Bo. This tree is located in the Bodh Gaya and under this large tree, Siddhartha Gautama was achieved enlightenment. He was the founder and spiritual teacher of Buddhism and later he was known as Gautama Buddha. This tree can be easily recognizable because of its heart shaped leaves. To grow fully, it needs at least 100 to 3,000 years. Nowadays, this bodhi' term is also applied to currently existing tree. For pilgrims, this site is one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites. Some other bodhi trees are situated in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka.
