When the blood vessels occur way, way up in the nose, it is called upper nosebleed. Lower nosebleed is more common and is caused when the blood vessels in the division separating the nose bursts. Chronic nosebleed is a type of bleeding that occurs quite often and it may need consultation as it can cause serious complications.

If chronic nosebleeds happen to adults, this might be good time to consult a doctor. Having upper nosebleeds often suggests that he might have hypertension.

Having high levels of cholesterol deposits can also cause the blood vessels to rupture. High calcium deposits and tumors can also result to frequent nosebleeds. You should be careful in inhaling hazardous chemicals. Once the mucous membranes are irritated and when you try to pick your nose, it may start bleeding.

Children are more prone to nosebleeds. For one, picking their noses are bad habits that children love to do. Constant picking of the nose may cause the mucous membranes to be damaged and bleeding may occur. Children get sick almost every time. Their immune system still needs a lot of boosting and when they catch a cold, tendency is, the airway through the nose closes up forcing them to blow hard into their noses. This effect can cause frequent bleeding to the child.

Aspirin is a known blood thinner and is used by most people to relieve them of their headache. If you are prone to nosebleeds, avoid taking them. Picking your nose is also a no-no since this is one of the main causes of why nosebleeds happen. If they do happen, there are lubricating creams that can be applied to stop it. Frequent blowing through the nose would also cause you to bleed so avoid that as well.

Consultation is needed especially if nosebleed is accompanied by other symptoms such as headache, dizziness and paleness. Monthly check-ups is a must for the physician to recheck and reassess the problem at hand.
