And when these blood vessels are weakened, they will tend to leak. Whats the worse, the fluid accumulation can lift the macular from its moorings, so people will suffer a distorted vision. No matter dry or wet macular degeneration, they can cause rods and cones in the retina to destruct, and the worst point is they can cause people to lose their vision.

We should pay attention to the following points: First, smoking, working with chemicals, or exposure to bright sunlight will make people under risk of getting macular degeneration. Take smoking as an example, scientists have done a research on 34 smokers and 34 nonsmokers. And they find there are more healthy pigments in nonsmokers retinas compared with that of smokers. In addition, people with more cigarettes will have thinner pigments. Moreover, study also shows that smoking can make women smokers under more severe condition than men smokers, as the pigments of women smokers will be 38% less than that of male smokers. Second, people with farsightedness will have higher possibility to get this eye disease than people with nearsightedness or good vision. Third, researches show European descents have a higher rate of getting macular degeneration than African descents. Last but not least, if there are people in your family who have macular degeneration, you will be under more risks of getting this disease, so family disease history also plays a role in it.
