Ccna Courses - Insert & Install Your Second Hard Drive

If you think that single hard drive is not serving you well and replacing the hard drive is not an option for you then simple add another hard drive

. This might sound like a hell difficult task but trust me; it is as easy as ABC if you just know a little about the technicalities. The procedure could easily be divided into simple steps. Just follow these steps and you are done installing a new hard drive. But make sure you dont miss out on any of these.

INSERTING THE HARD DRIVE:

1.Make sure your computer is turned off and the power cord is unplugged.

2.Unscrew the computer casing.

3.Provide a ground to yourself by touching some part of the computer. A table is the best place to perform this task.

4.Inside your computer you will see a ribbon cable; made up of several cables together normally gray in color. This is connected to your hard drive.

5.Now to connect the second hard drive, attach the second ribbon cable and the corresponding colored striped cable to the second hard drive. Normally one end of the ribbon is already inserted in the motherboard. In case you dont have a second ribbon cable then buy one and make sure you connect it similarly by inserting one end in the motherboard and the other end into your new hard drive.

6.There is a power cable that is required to be attached to this new hard drive.

7.Now you should place this drive in the drive bay already there in your computer. This bay helps in securing the hard drive with the use of screws.

8.Now you are done with the insertion of the hard disk. Replace the casing back.

INSTALLING THE HARD DRIVE:

After you are done with the insertion process now you need to install the hard drive. Here are some simple steps to perform that.

1.Switch on the computer to add the hard disk to the CMOS setup.

2.Enter the CMOS setup. Normally the computer indicates which key to press to enter the BIOS. In most of the cases its either DEL, F2 or F12.

3.In most of the cases by the use of arrow keys you can select the Auto Detect option. If you are unable to find it then do this part manually.

4.For the manual installation, select the screen that shows hard drive parameters.

a) Scroll and select the drive parameters that match closely to your newly

installed drive. Press enter to select it.

b) Press Enter or Y to save the new settings.

5.If the auto detect option is available. The computer will go for the default settings ignoring the uninstalled drivers. Pressing Y will start this process.

6.Use the arrow keys to Save & Exit the setup. This will restart the computer with the inclusion of the second hard drive.
