. Later video cameras were installed in the United States to fight crime. Later it became a common equipment to be sued by local authorities, banks, offices and other commercial places to protect themselves from crime and other theft. Slowly this concept was adapted by homes as well.

How do they work?

The CCTV transmits the video surveillance signals to a specified place where there are a set of monitors but these signals are not openly transmitted. In its more advanced technology, CCTVs use DVRs or the Digital Video Recorders in which years of recorded data can be stored. It also has many options for performance and numerous features. There are also CCTV cameras that are based on decentralized IP address in which the recordings are directed to the network storage device or to an internal device in case of stand-alone operations while some of the devices are also equipped with sensors which are of megapixels. The use of CCTVs has increased so drastically that it triggered a debate between the security concerns and the privacy of an individual.

So, what are the capabilities of CCTV?

In a broader sense, the capabilities of CCTV can be told as increasing the safety of the public especially in the days where terrorist attacks are on the rise; undertaking effective surveillance system; the value of evidence in case of crime is maximized and installation of CCTVs is said to be the most effective way of gathering intelligence technology. Moreover it helps in establishing the identity of the person or object involved in the crime and helps in its investigations effectively.

A CCTV Camera can be integrated with the other forms of security devices very easily.

For example it can be integrated with a security alarm and other access control systems. But, the integration would require a special type of camera or other recording device depending on with what you are integrating.

These days people are installing wireless security cameras as they dont require any cables for transmitting the audio and video. These are also comparatively inexpensive and easy to install and at the same time the quality of the video and the audio is quite crisp and clear. But, the CCTVs need to be protected too as they are the first ones to be destroyed when a crime is being committed as no one likes to leave any evidence behind.
