Cd And Dvd Storage Towers Have Multiple Uses
Years ago, buying a storage tower was fairly simple
. There weren't many styles. You didn't get to choose something that matched the room, or even looked good. You simply headed to the store to find something big enough to hold all your media needs.
These original storage units were often nothing more exciting than heavy plastic, and usually black. There were a few colours such as white or even pink, but more often than not, you bought black because you didn't have much choice and you wanted something that wouldn't look too garish.
In the 80s, elaborate rack systems came out with fancy doors, some in glass, with multiple shelves. Many were made to even hold the tape decks, VCRs and similar pieces of kit that media needed in order to be played. Ultimately, some of these storage towers reached four and five feet high and became pieces of furniture that were indeed meant to coordinate with your living or family room.
Furniture stores started carrying some pretty expensive towers, many that could hold tapes, books, knickknacks, a TV, and all your CDs and DVDs in one place. All sorts of wood and wood finishes were available, from cheap, processed plywood to high end solid mahogany.
The modern day entertainment units are merely the grandchildren of the original storage units. These are much more elaborate, certainly much larger, and absolutely more expensive. Add on the price of a flat screen plasma TV, and many families find their home entertainment cost surprisingly high.
There are some very inexpensive ways to build your own units as well. Students living in single rooms have always used boxes or modular storage units for everything from stacking their sweaters and shoes to storing their CDs, etc. These boxes have even become a fashion statement of their own and some very sturdy and colourful boxes can be found in high end home improvement or home design stores.
Some of these units are perfect because they can be added on to as your needs grow. If you have only a few tapes or CDs to begin with, one or two cubes or boxes might be perfect. Expanding your collection is easy because all you need to do is head back to the shop or look online to buy a few more cubes that either attach or interlock, and you're ready to go.
Many people are tired of using up so much space storing hundreds of old CDs and tapes and they have sold almost everything second hand! Instead, they choose to legally download from reputable sources, only buying selected songs or movies or watching "on demand" television. Once all these storage tower units are emptied of multimedia content, they are frequently moved to other rooms like the garage, bedrooms, hallways, or bathrooms and closets where they turn into phenomenal storage for everything else you need to keep neat and out of the way!
Many of the original plastic storage towers have become wonderful storage for garages and outside storage sheds because the plastic doesn't rust and is easy to clean off. Modern and attractive storage towers are increasingly easy to come by.
