Unlike the lattice work characteristic of trellises and arbors, obelisks feature a minimal number of crossbeams upon which creepers can adhere.

Planter boxes are extremely versatile and can go in just about any type of garden setup, including the very small, the urban and rooftop garden. Or, if you have no garden space to speak of, there are window boxes available that attach easily to sills. Cedar planters are typically rectangular or square-shaped in design and can be very small or very big. As far as what to plant, let your inspiration guide. Planters can hold almost anything a normal garden can, including leafy foliage, flowers, vegetables and fresh herbs. They can be moved around to find the sun or shade as needed and arranged in aesthetic patterns. Plus, that way you also have control of the exact specifications, and all at a slightly lower cost. The main thing to remember is that although you need to make sure that the box can hold a good amount of soil, there must also be a basic drainage system in place so that there is no standing water. The simplest way of doing this is by drilling some holes in the bottom to allow water to pass through.
