Ceiling Lights- Extraordinary Designers

Light fixtures can add the perfect amount of texture and style needed to lift a room. A contemporary light fixture for instance might be all that's needed to compliment a modern flat. Similarly, an antique chandelier has the ability to pull together a country dining room and act as its central focus. Designing lighting structures requires a certain vision. Most designers will have a signature style to popularise themselves and mark their place in the industry. Some notable contemporary light designers include: 1. Michele de Lucchi- Logico Michele de Lucchi has almost always collaborated with groups of designers to create products. In 1990 he decided to start his own small business where he wouldn't have to worry about mass production and could instead focus on creating simple, elegant designs. Together with Gerhard Reichert Michele de Lucchi created Logico. It is made from handblown glass and has a satin finish. It has a diffuser supporting frame which is made of die-cast aluminium with a lacquer finish. The Logico comes in three different sizes. 2. Phillipe Starck- Gun SeriesPhilippe Stark is a high school drop out who ignited his career when he designed the interiors of a couple of Paris nightclubs which got the attention of the President who then asked Stark to refurbish a private apartment in the Elysee Palace. Stark designs many items including chairs, lights, utensils and more. His Gun collection is quite controversial in that the stems of all of the lamps are handguns plated in 18-karat gold. They are sure to be a conversation starter though. 3. Achille Castiglioni- Arco Achille Castglioni graduated with a degree in architecture and then began testing industrial production. His goal was to develop an integral design process that considered shapes, techniques, and new materials. His works can be bought and are also on display in some of the most famous museums around the world, including the MOMA in New York and the V&A in London. Arco is an arched light fixture based in marble. It takes up quite a lot of space and therefore becomes the centre of a room. It was developed almost fifty years ago and is recognized as a classic design. 4. Gino Sarfatti- 2097 Gino Sarfatti was an Italian designer who became known as an international icon in the modern architecture lighting movement that went on in the 1940s. Sarfatti developed his craft for thirty years, during which he produced over 400 light fixtures and researched endlessly about materials, technologies, light sources, and design. His 2097 chandelier is symbol of simple, modern, and elegant design. In their own way, each of these designers helped revolutionize the way we see light. They contributed to a movement and created beautiful products. So the next time you walk into a room, look up to the ceiling and see what's hanging there. It might be something extraordinary.
