Central Florida Home Alarm Expert Shows You How to Prevent Robbery, Theft and Home Invations
Break-ins and home invasions are up, so what can you do about it
?
Clearly locks on windows and doors no longer work. If they worked people wouldn't be breaking in, and they are still getting in. There is such a thing called a bump key where they can get into certain locks. I feel that the solution today, clearly, is for you to take your security into your own hands and get home protected with an alarm system.
Now, a couple of things you want to keep in mind. Number one, with an alarm system, what is the mechanism that system has to protect you outside the perimeter of your home? If somebody were to attack or if somebody were to try to home invade you from the outside, and you were out there, how would you protect yourself? I recommend, with an alarm system, that you have some sort of key fob or remote control or some sort of remote panic switch. You may be able to carry it in a pocket book if you are a lady, or a guy could carry it in a key chain, or vise versa. This way here you have some sort of mechanism to protect yourself outside of the home. That is key.
The other thing is you want to remain extremely aware, and you want to be really alert to potential dangers. What does a bad guy look like? You may think they are tattooed and long-haired, but that isn't always the case. Sometimes they are females; sometimes they travel in pairs. They could come in any skin color, any size. They could be skinny or fat. So you don't know what they look like. Some of them are disguising themselves in work clothes to look like they work for somebody, that kind of thing. You just have to keep your guard up today, because these things are happening.
With that said, you should also have the home protected properly with an alarm, so that when you're not home you don't ever have to worry about walking into an intrusion that is taking place or is underway. Make sure that you have the perimeter of the home properly protected, and make sure you have motion sensors in the house that cover a wide enough area. One of the mistakes people make is they don't have enough motion sensors. If somebody were to come in, for example, they could come into the master bedroom, rob the master bedroom and leave. The challenge is if you ever walk in on the bad guy. We don't want that to happen.
Lastly, when you're home. When you're home sleeping you want to make sure the perimeter of that home is protected properly, and you want to make sure that system is foolproof. Think like a bad guy would. I know that's hard for most of us, but try to think like a bad guy would. Look at your house through the eyes of a bad guy. Ask yourself, if I were to break into this house, how would I do it? You'd be surprised, most homeowners know exactly how they would do it. Then what you want to do is talk to a local security professional, and you want to close those holes once and for all so that you and your family are not vulnerable, and so you and your family are safe.
