It may seem like the end of the world when you get a cerebral palsy diagnosis

What Is Cerebral Palsy?

You may be wondering what cerebral palsy even is. This is a disability that affects the muscles and makes them grow in an improper way. They may not be able to hold as much weight as normal muscles would and this makes them harder to deal with. Some muscles may just have spasms and feel as though they can't hold any weight. This is common for those dealing with cerebral palsy.

Diagnosis


There are a few different ways that cerebral palsy can be diagnosed. The first is through a detailed description of the patients history. Many doctors will be able to decide if the problems that they're having are related to cerebral palsy or something else. Other options include a C. T. or an MRI to see if their muscles are developing properly. Many doctors do not use these because of the expense to the patient and because of the fact that the history may be enough to diagnose it.

Dealing With The Diagnosis

Some people may not be able to deal with the diagnosis of cerebral palsy. This is because this can be a devastating diagnosis to some people. They main think that they can't go on in the normal way and that they will lose a function of most of their muscles. This is not always the case but sometimes the patient may find that they will have to use a wheelchair later on.

If you have been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, it's not the end of the world. You can do things to help your body and your muscles become stronger. Talk to your doctor and see if there's anything that you can do to slow the progression. You may be surprised if the answer but they give you and at what you can do to help your body. Take the time to research what cerebral palsy is and add there any other treatments that you may not know about.
