Challenging Behaviour
Nua Healthcare have devised a challenging behavior policy which has been established
to minimise incidents of challenging behaviour through preventative protocols, safeguard the welfare of staff, service users and their peers who may potentially be affected by incidents of challenging behaviour. To support and assist staff in their day-to-day management of challenging behaviour by providing specific training and instruction.
There can be no single solution to the problem of challenging behaviour - sometimes solutions simply are not available. It is important that violentand challenging behaviour should not be reviewed in isolation. It is part of a complex whole that makes up an individual's behaviour.
It is the aim at Nua Healthcare Services to help service users come to terms with themselves, their behaviours, their learning difficulties and autism in order to lead full and enriching lives within the community. This is a possibility for all/many of the service users at Nua Healthcare Services for most of the time. Being able to deal effectively with violent and
challenging behavior is therefore an important part of staff work within Nua Healthcare.
The key to managing challenging behaviour within Nua Healthcare Services is flexibility, planning, regular assessment and most importantly, an agreed, consistent, whole approach to manage those disruptive and challenging behaviours. Nua Healthcare Services will provide staff with the following:
A clear policy and procedure
Appropriate training
Effective monitoring of all incidents of violence towards staff
Appropriate debriefing or counselling in the case of persistent trauma
At Nua Healthcare Services we use the term challenging behaviour to describe any behaviour that makes it more difficult for us to work with our service users. This includes more than just violence and aggression.
