Change - It's Never Convenient

New paradigms always seem to show up sooner than they are wanted or needed. People and organizations are busy practicing the old paradigm, the old way of doing business and they don't have their eyes open for the anything new. They are perfectly happy and successful with what they have and they don't feel the need to change. The problem is that change isn't convenient. It shows up and knocks on our door when we are busy eating dinner. However, if we don't answer the door and recognize a shift in our paradigm, then when shift happens we are left in an old paradigm and our business doesn't work anymore. Businesses die when they are not ready for change.

There are many reasons people and organizations resist change. Things are usually going great and they don't see any reason to give up on something that is so successful, they are good at what they do and they don't want to start from scratch again, and they are afraid of the unknown - after all there is no guarantee with a new paradigm. All of reasons make for a powerful resistance to change.

In order to avoid this line of thinking, more powerful thoughts need to take over and become part of the organization's culture. Thoughts like - if we embrace change and understand it then we can maintain or improve our position in the industry; or we can avoid downsizing or losing our market share. They need to large concepts that can grasp the imagination and inspire the people within an organization. Change is a powerful and fearful thing to people. Inspiration can go a long way to thwarting that fear.

Change is never convenient but every organization will face it and either wither and die or embrace it and thrive. It's really up the organization. Creating a culture that not only embraces change, but that can see change when it arrives is imperative to survival in the marketplace today)
