Changing Semi-truck Drivers Lives: Power Inverters For Semi-trucks

It should come as no surprise that semi-truck drivers are away from home for long periods of time

, and therefore they have to do without all the home comforts that one would normally be used to. This can cause a certain level of distress for semi-truck drivers. Since they are not always on the road driving, many semi-truck drivers customise the exterior and interior of their semi-trucks to make their time in the cabin more comfortable, and to mimic the comforts of their home surroundings. However, there is a problem in that most semi-trucks do not provide the necessary means to simply plug in a DVD player to watch some wisely chosen movies, or a refrigerator to keep refrigerated a can of beer before bed. Therefore, one needs to invest in what is called a power inverter.

Power inverters tend to be small enough to install into a semi-truck's cabin. Once installed, however, its function is to convert DC battery power to AC. This is because the normal DC to AC adapters for the cigarette lighters and insufficient for such things as DVD players and refrigerators. They are intended purely for smaller devices. If you want to make your semi-truck much more comfortable and homely, however, then you're going to need a power inverter, which would be more than sufficient for customising your semi-truck to your heart's content.

There is a warning in installing a power inverter. That is one needs to ensure that the inverter offers more voltage than the appliances you intend to install in your semi-truck, otherwise a fire may ensue. For any semi-truck driver, this would be a disaster as it would potentially mean days off the road whilst the semi-truck was being repaired.

Many inverters, especially the smaller units, plug straight into the cigarette lighter, and are rather painless to install. However, larger power inverters require much work arduous work in installing them into your semi-truck. These can convert anywhere up to 24 volts DC. There are also lots of safety additions, such as fans and power-cutters, in the event of an unfortunate event. Many units also come with a choice of how much output you require, from 1,000 to 2,000, and even 3,000 watts, just by the flick of a switch.

There are 2 types of semi-truck power inverters; these are modified-sine wave inverters, and true sine wave inverters. Predominantly, the difference between the 2 types of power inverters is that true sine wave inverters mimic the electricity flow as seen in houses, and can accommodate your larger units that you may well wish to install in your semi-truck. The modified-sine wave inverters are intended for smaller units, and are not really to be used for the kind of things semi-truck drivers would use it for. Therefore, the latter is recommended for a semi-truck.

Fortunately, power inverters aren't at all expensive, and would set you back around $100 USD. Where your money would be spent is on all the gadgets that you can now install in your semi-truck!
