Charlie Sheen Files for Divorce
Both People Magazine and TMZ.com report that 1 of the 2 and a half men is heading towards divorce.
Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller filed their separate divorce law papers yesterday in Los Angeles Superior Court. Both spouses cite "irreconcilable differences" as grounds for the marital breakdown, and both pointed to their fight on last Christmas, which ended up with Sheen landing in an Aspen, Colorado jail, as the day they stopped living as husband and wife. For that episode, Sheen was sentenced to probation and ordered to attend domestic violence counseling.
Sheen is seeking joint physical and legal custody of the couple's 1 1/2 year old twins; a move that Mueller is challenging. She wants primary physical custody, with Sheen having visitation rights.
Both Sheen and Mueller have battled addiction problems, and each has attended separate rehab programs. Most recently, Sheen made headlines after being found "naked and disoriented" in a hotel room. Police allege that the star was drunk, while Sheen's representative claims he was suffering from an allergic reaction to medication.
It's unclear whether, or to what extent, that matter will factor into the court's custody decision.
Sheen was previously married to actress Denise Richards. That marriage ended in 2006, after a bitter custody battle over the couple's two daughters.
