Chase Boredom Away With Soap Making Activities

There are some people who become quite bored with the same bar of soap they use in their bathrooms

. It can be a little tiring to make use of the same thing everyday for washing hands or bathing. It can be a little more exciting if you can create your very own soaps which are crafted and smells just the way you want it. These days, more and more people are discovering the fun and possible income opportunities of soap making activities, but many are simply enjoying this as their hobby. Carefully crafted and sweet smelling soaps are not just for washing or cleaning because they can also be used for decorating and beautifying your bathrooms.

The main ingredients of soap makings are lye and fats, while other additional options include fragrance oils for the smell and dyes for the color. Fat is considered as the main ingredient in making soap because it is responsible for the essential characteristic of soaps. Fat helps produce a good lather which is mild for the skin regardless of whether the soap is hard or soft. On the other hand, lye is the one responsible for hydrolizing fat and in turning it into soap. Other ingredients are simply for additional art and smell of the soap.

Soaps are made through two methods, the hot and the cold method. The cold method involves adding the fat into a previously prepared lye and water mixture. Then, the mixture is poured into melts dipped in cold water. On the other hand, the hot method uses the same process except that in here, the fat is first heated before it is mixed with the lye water mixture. The fat and lye mixture is further heated for two hours before the soap is ready. The products made through the cold method lasts longer than the ones created through the hot method.

Once the soap mixture is ready, the other ingredients can now be added for a more aesthetically pleasing product. When using dyes with molds, it should be properly done so that you can make perfect designs such as animals, food and sometimes even electronic gadgets. It may need some practice before you can perfect the art of using these ingredients with the mold properly. Fragrance oils are also added to make your soap not only appealing but also sweet smelling.

Before starting with soap making activities, you have to keep in mind that lye is a hazardous material which should be handles with care and caution. It has corrosive properties which can cause injuries so you have to protect your hands when using it. This ingredient also gives off dangerous fumes when mixed with water so you also have to avoid inhalation. Making soap can be a fun and exciting activity but you must not overlook the harmful properties of lye and always wear protection when doing a project.

Soap making can be a great hobby which is fun and enjoyable. You can create the soaps you want with the scent you want and even start a business out of it. Just practice more so that you can perfect the shapes, the color and the scent of your soap creations.
