Chatur Singh Two Star Movie Review

Chatur Singh Two Star both the movie and the character are apparently made to make you laugh

, but on a different level they are on a different mission - mission to irritate you and they succeed in it sans a miss.

The movie is based on a novel titled, Chalaak Jasoos, but our Spy, played by Sanjay Dutt is anything but smart. A wobbly screenplay marked with poor direction and clumsy characterizations are some of the major flaws of director Ajay Chandhoks failed attempt at comedy.

Chatur Singh Two Star is the story of a "non corrupt, non-intelligent and nonsense cop" who is trying really hard to add another star to his uniform and become Chatur Singh 3 Star. And he does manage to live his dream at the end after solving a murder mystery by fluke. But what takes him there are a series of foolish and funny (non-funny actually) situations involving characters like his senior Sinha[Anupam Kher]who keeps popping pills to fight an ailment called - Chatur Singh, his buddy Pappu Panther, a corrupt politician YYSingh [Gulshan Grover], his sexy secretary, Sonia [Amisha Patel] and more.

The movie opens with Sanjay Dutt makingdesperateefforts to establish himself as a bright spy by fiddling with disguise and appearances. But until interval the story doesnt move beyond that. Even Sanjay Dutts buffoonery and funny mannerisms are no saving grace for this unimpressive comedy.The characters are shallow and appear to be fumbling rather than acting in a story that lacks depth and flow.

Dialogues lack the punch and quirkiness to induce laughter, which is the basic requirement of a comedy. In fact, dialogues can make or break a movie and Chatur Singh is a clear victim of bad homework on everyones part. You can imagine the state of comedy where jokes are Pahar and Ganj types. Confusion and chaos is all pervasive in the movie, especially during the climax, which is absolutely reckless.

As far as characters are concerned, Sanjay Dutt has drained himself completely to do justice to the comedy with his hilarious antics and idiosyncratic guises but all that doesnt translate into anything good as story on the whole lacks meat. For Amisha Patel, the movie will be last and final ultimatum to quit acting as she still has a long way to go. The lady stands wasted despite putting those curvy legs and creamed cleavage to the best use. Anupam Kher has justified his role but should have been given some more screen presence. Rati Agnihotri has a blink and you miss role, in fact anyone could have done that. Shakti Kapoor and Gulshan Grover could have been utilized for better. Were still wondering how come Munna Bhai can even agree to do a Chatur Singh !

Just like other aspects of the movie, even music is forgettable. Sajid-Wajid of Dabangg fame fail to create any buzz this time. Even Sanjay Dutt getting behind the mike for two songs including Singh Singh Singh and Murga Anda Dega or Amishas item number dont do any good to the sinking ship. Cinematography is insyncwith the story line but direction is hopeless. The director got too engrossed with the book and ended up in this chapter wise and episodic movie thats far from entertaining.

Sorry to say, despite the hint in its title Chatur Singh TwoStar, we cannot give it anything more than 1 star. We suggest you to conveniently avoid for some better things over the weekend.
