Cheaney Shoes Stun The Fashion Conscious Man

There are few more high profile sports in the World today than Formula One Motor Racing which now boasts events ranging from the Middle East to Australia, from Brazil to Turkey, and in most countries of Western Europe.

The Monaco Grand Prix is held among the streets of that small principality, other events are held on circuits which have been funded by the vast wealth that oil has created for the Middle East.

The British Grand Prix is held at Silverstone in Northamptonshire and has been continuously since the late 80s.

The circuit was built on the old RAF Bomber Station from the Second World War, RAF Silverstone and first opened in 1947, holding the first Grand Prix shortly afterwards.

Northamptonshire, a rural county in Middle England, is known for many things: its shoe manufacturing, its sporting clubs, its pleasant rural lifestyle and Silverstone when thousands throng to this racing circuit for practice days and the main event held on a Sunday.

Its success means that Aintree and Brands Hatch which also used to share this event have been discarded. Recently though Silverstone's tenure of the event has been under threat and did involve a commitment for redevelopment in order to ensure that ongoing tenure. That was only after a plan for the redevelopment of Donington Park, further north up the M1 Motorway, collapsed.

It was once thought that if Donington was not developed then the British Grand Prix would disappear from the Formula One calendar but that stance was withdrawn during behind the scenes negotiations.

It has some logistical problems of access which have been slightly alleviated by a by pass, and the development of a heliport, where the rich and famous, in the latest fashion and cheaney shoes can land and avoid the traffic jams. That heliport is the busiest in the UK on Race Day Sunday.

Silverstone of course, owned by the British Racing Drivers' Club, was not in a position to develop without a long term agreement for the hosting of the event, and its guaranteed inclusion on the F1 Calendar. That undertaking was provided and so the British Grand Prix will be held in that part of Northamptonshire until well after 2020.

The circuit has changed quite radically to fit in with the progress the sport and technology has made over the years but it was an ever evolving circuit anyway. The new Grand Prix circuit is 3.7 miles long, and was introduced in 2009, when various other changes to the pit and spectator areas were also seen for the first time. This is the event which sees the crowds in their thousands, the general spectator the avid race fan who might have camped over night, unable to find local accommodation to the sports hospitality guest, arriving by helicopter and tasting fine wines, in cheaney shoes and whatever fashion the English climate allows on the day.

Other events with both car and motor cycle are held at Silverstone on different configurations of the circuit but it is for Formula One that Silverstone and Northamptonshire are known.
