Again there are various types, some manual or automatic and some are completely rigid for full protection against accidents. These safety covers are not cheap so you really must do your research before committing to one company as they should be able to provide you with a cover to suit your budget and fulfil the needs of your requirements.

Additionally you will need a winter cover which are generally placed right over the pool surround and fixed into the ground, to prevent debris, leaves, etc getting into the pool when everything is shut down. The cheap versions of these covers are liable to tear when they get heavy with rain and thus then let in dirt. You should ensure that your debris cover is made from a strong mesh which will allow rain water to go through it into the pool rather than pooling on the top and making it sag.

One alternative to all these types of cover is a pool enclosure which is a telescopic glass structure that is placed over the pool and creates a room so that even in bad weather you can swim and use the pool. As it is like a conservatory it will heat up the air inside the pool enclosure which in turn will help to heat the pool water and depending on the size you can have the enclosure it can also encapsulate a hot tub or gym equipment giving you an indoor leisure area which can easily and quickly be opened back to then give you an outdoor pool area when the weather is good
